Does everyone else in the world write 80% of a blog and never finish it? I have about 10 blog entries that are all about 80% of the way finished. For some yet unknowne reason, I tend to abandon my writing at the 80% mark, which means I never end up publishing the entries.

Hahaha…I too have several unfinished, which I tell myself I will go back and complete, but I never do. The problem is I have to write in the moment. If I wait and go back, I’m usually like “what the hell was I thinking when I wrote that?”

Brandon, maybe, what you should do is change your habits. When you get to the point where you are done spending time writing a posting, then post it. Right then. No excuses. You’ll find that you give it the critical eye (and maybe read over it again the next day, for “more time spent thinking about it” editing), which is probably all that the “80% complete” is waiting for. And tie up any loose ends, if there really are any.
Perhaps part of it too is worrying what people who read it will think. Maybe it’s better to not think about that. Imagine a specific audience, and write to them. If you find yourself feeling too censored, then get an additional blog, and only let your specific audience have the site listing.
If you start thinking about all the people who might read it (relatives, strangers, collegaues, wtf-ever), it becomes nearly impossible to post with confidence. If you’re not posting with confidence, it’s because you’re not writing with confidence, and why would anyone post something they don’t feel confident about? It’s commiting thoughts to something more permanent than their current state in your head. Sure, over time, your feelings will change, much like hollytraveling pointed out. But having that record can help you to track how your thoughts change and evolve, and you can really learn a lot about yourself in doing that.
