Why is your blog titled “My Ebenezer Stone”?
Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen. He named it Ebenezer, saying, “Thus far has God helped us.”
- 1 Samuel 7:12
Samuel was the last of a line of “Judges” who ruled over the nation of Israel. The Judges were a lineage of people – a caste – who were raised for the sole purpose of administration of society and the application of the law. Wisdom was their trade. Sometime around 1050 BC, Samuel raised a great stone so that everyone who saw it would not forget what had transpired at that location.
We humans are fickle and forgetful creatures. This may actually be our greatest crutch – the very foundation of what we call The Human Condition. Our inability to retain what we learn and apply it to our lives is a great evil, and a heavy burden that we all live with.
I am certainly no Judge, nor would I even claim to be a good judge in general. However, I will do my best to pass on my bits of Ebenezer where I can.
Humor, wisdom, the application of understanding, or anything in-between.
